The 2030 regional development strategy formulated by the Canton Solothurn government focuses on key factors influencing the canton’s attractiveness as a destination for investment and as a place to live and work.
The goal is to make Canton Solothurn even more competitive, both nationally and internationally, as a place for doing business. The 2030 strategy, passed in January 2019, pursues precisely this goal by creating a framework for broad-based business development, and building awareness of the importance of the various factors in Solothurn’s attractiveness.
Quality of life increasingly important
A business location’s attractiveness depends on a range of classic parameters including tax rates, real estate prices, regulation, the availability of trained personnel, and standards of infrastructure. But when qualified labor is scarce, other factors relating to quality of life increasingly come into play. They include education, child care, leisure opportunities, and housing.
Key fields of action
The 2030 development strategy addresses these factors and the key challenges that Canton Solothurn can expect to face in the years to come. It identifies seven fields of action:
- Education, training, and skilled labor
- Quality of life
- Infrastructure and land-use planning
- Smart government
- Finances and taxes
- Promoting innovation and growth
- Promoting the location
