Sporting highlights

Solothurn is home to diverse attractive sporting events.

  1. Spectacle at Kleinholz stadium: EHC Olten is the most prominent ice hockey club in this part of the country, playing successfully in the Swiss League in front of crowds averaging more than 3,500 people.
  2. The Tissot Velodrome is Swiss cycling’s national stadium and a training center for the cycling heroes of the present and future. At its heart is a 250-meter cycle-racing track.
  3. Every year the Weissenstein Schwinget attracts around 4,600 spectators to Solothurn’s mountain for a tournament of traditional Swiss wrestling (“schwingen”). The absolute elite of Switzerland’s national sport battle it out in gripping duels in the sawdust arena.
  4. Sport&Horses in Matzendorf is Switzerland’s very own western riding center, offering accommodation, training, and regular western riding events.
  5. Located in a peaceful setting at the southern foot of the Jura, the golf club at Heidental is a paradise for golfers of all levels of ability. The club boasts a full infrastructure, a well-tended course, and a restaurant with a wonderful terrace – also open to the public.
